The sly way to network October 2, 2006

We heard about a sly way people abuse online registrations as a form of networking which is pretty devious. The increasing use of online registration for events has seen people add their names to lists even though they will never attend. However in the runup to the event, anyone that is actually going will see that person’s name listed when they scan through the list. Should the list also remain posted after the event then anyone that happens to stumble across it will also think that they attended.
It sounds pretty pathetic, but then again how many times have you walked away from an event cursing yourself for not meeting someone in particular because you were too busy or didn’t see them at it. We wouldn’t recommend it as a networking strategy, but we can see why some people do it.
